Unidentified ‘Baby Justice’ buried in playground sand

Yet another story about a crime on an innocent child.

Last friday in an Albuquerque, New Mexico, park a passerby made a startling discovery — a tiny black and lime shoe protruding from beneath the playground sand.

It led police to the body of a young boy, who had been buried there in a shallow grave, police say , less than 48 hours earlier.
P olice still had no answers as to what happened , who the boy is or how he got there. They have no clues according to reports.

Police say this shirt was found on the boy. They have named the boy ”Baby Justice” or “Baby Angel.”

Investigators say that they don’t have a cause of death from the autopsy and are waiting for a toxicology report for more clues.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Is searching its database for any matches.
A sketch of the child will be vital to finding family members, but the child’s body sat in the sand and sun for days.
Police said they believe this was a very hastily committed crime, because the child was buried in a shallow grave in a highly visible area. Police said they believe a family member may be involved because there is no missing persons report for any child matching his description.
Investigators are calling the case unusual, complicated and special due to the victim’s age.

They describe the boy as 3 feet 2 inches tall and of Hispanic or Native American heritage.
He was found wearing Sketchers sneakers, black pants and a red T-shirt with a picture of a truck — in size 3T.
Police ask anyone who may have been in the area late last week to call them.

They say that person may not even know they have the information that could crack the case.
That number is 505-242-COPS.

New York principal’s death linked to flu virus, Makes 6 in US

Seems like it’s been a while since we last heard about the swine, aka H1N1, flu outbreak. It’s still out there though.

Now there are reports that an assistant principal of a New York middle school died Sunday from flu complications from the virus. The New York City Health Commissioner reports a rising tide of flu in the city.

It’s the sixth death in the United States that health authorities have linked to the virus.

Since the H1N1 outbreak surfaced last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked five deaths to swine flu. According to reports, all had pre-existing medical problems.

So, what is the CDC saying?

Believe it or not, the CDC has been updating less often about the flu as it still spreads. As of their last update, during week 18 (May 3 – 9, 2009), influenza activity remained at approximately the same level as last week in the United States, indicating that there are higher levels of influenza-like illness than is normal for this time of year.

One thousand four hundred fifty-four (11.9%) specimens tested by U.S. World Health Organization (WHO) and National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS) collaborating laboratories and reported to CDC/Influenza Division were positive for influenza.
The proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) was below the epidemic threshold.
Three influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported.
The proportion of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) was above the national baseline. Three of the ten surveillance regions reported ILI above their region-specific baselines.
Eight states reported geographically widespread influenza activity, 14 states reported regional activity, the District of Columbia and 15 states reported local influenza activity; and 13 states reported sporadic influenza activity.

What can you do?

CDC says this:

Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
Take everyday actions to stay healthy.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.

Carbquik Recipe: Peanut Butter Cake

Servings: 9

With granular Splenda:

Per Serving: 244 Calories; 21g Fat; 7g Protein;

14g Carbohydrate; 7g Dietary Fiber; 7g Net Carbs

With liquid Splenda:

Per Serving: 231 Calories; 21g Fat; 7g Protein;

11g Carbohydrate; 7g Dietary Fiber; 4g Net Carbs

Ingredients:

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (do not use salted butter)

1 large egg

1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter

1 cup granular Splenda or 1/4 teaspoon Sweetzfree

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons Carb Countdown 2% milk

1 cup Carbquik

1 teaspoon baking powder

Glaze: 1 ounce MiniCarb chocolate chips, scant 1/4 cup

1 tablespoon butter

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granular Splenda or 6 drops Sweetzfree

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour a 6-cup bundt pan or 8×8\” pan with Carbquik. Cream butter with an electric mixer. Add egg and mix until smooth. Mix in peanut butter and combine until fully incorporated. Mix Sweetzfree, vanilla and milk; set aside. Mix baking powder into Carbquik.

Add dry ingredients and milk mixture to butter a little at a time beating after each addition. When batter is mixed well, spread in pan. Bake 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean and cake is golden brown. Cool on rack before putting on glaze.

For Glaze: In a small bowl combine chocolate chips, butter, heavy cream and Sweetzfree. Microwave on MEDIUM for 30 seconds or until butter is melted. Stir to completely melt chocolate. Place bowl in refrigerator and stir every once in a while until it\’s thick enough to pour over cake without running off too quickly.
